I havent entered the SWPP Monthly Competition in a few months these few photos got a Silver Medal. In the Open , Press and News, and Publicity and PR  Categories for July.

The August bank holiday weekend was a busy weekend. One of the more enjoyable jobs for me that weekend was being sent to get a picture page for the Dundalk Leader at the Cornamucklagh Festival near Omeath in North Louth. There was a great buzz around the area with a real community spirit evident helped by the brilliantly shameless double entendre of MC Ciaran Philips accompanied by twangs of Country Music.  As a townie it was great to see the country life and traditions still going strong with a number of demonstrations of farm skills like sheep shearing, blacksmiths and kids fishing for ducks only having to manoeuvre the mechanical arm of a digger with a rod attached to it. There is nothing more humbling for somebody raised in a town environment than the sight of a 10 year old operating such advanced machinery with pin point precision. As the ‘Its A Knockout’ obstacle race got under way my only regret was not being able to stick around for the craic that evening as the cowboy styled MC  kept threatening  everybody over the PA system that come ten o’clock you’d be  off your rocker with the band ‘Off Your Rocker’ playing in the marquee.

In 2006 I was commissioned by the Bellewstown Race’s to document their August meeting. This was part of a campaign of breathing fresh life into the historic festival which included upgraded facilities for both trainers, jockies and punters alike which has been successful in guaranteeing the survival of this meeting seeing bigger crowds pass through the turnstiles every summer since then.

Studio Portrait:

Studio portraits are shot at my portrait studio in a relaxed and informal style posed against a simple white background and black background.

Environmental Portrait:

It complements the personality within  the portrait. Here’s a selection of shots recently taken for  Upstate Lives most recent play The Ones Who Kill Shooting Stars.   As ever it was fun working with the Upstate team again. A razor sharp comedy with more twists than a series finale of Lost I don’t think  you’d ever see Clogherhead presented in the same light again unless of course either Conall Quinn or Paul Hayes decide to make a sequel.

Conall Quinn’s new play is a surreal tale of love and death set on a County Louth beach during World War II.

Henry is on the look out for German submarines but all he really wants to do is fire his flare gun, Alice has decided to run away from home again, and Edward’s wife is blowing kisses at him. There’s also the body of the American pilot to bury…

“Look out! Oh holy God, look out! That’s what all the shooting stars will say. They’ll say, There’s that coastwatcher Henry Neary, he’s the one who kills shooting stars with his unrequited love.”
